FROM SUICIDAL TO SCHOOL PRESIDENT
I just wanted to thank you for your kind and inspiring words today. By the time I was in the 10th grade, self-harm was a regular and I had attempted suicide at least three times. This morning, I felt severely depressed and I was seriously considering another attempt. I thought that I was worthless, and that I was nothing but a burden to everyone, and that I should just stop existing.
But then, you appeared on stage and probably changed my life forever. No one had ever known so perfectly what I was feeling. I suddenly didn’t feel alone. I felt like I had a true meaning, and I felt like a superhero. I have you to thank for that.
In the future, I want to become an oncologist and maybe change some lives in the way that you changed mine.
Nevertheless, thank you for everything.

Less than 2 months after her first email…she wrote this:
I’m doing great, thanks! I’ve tried a new method to cope with my urge to self-harm: I chew gum. It seems a little silly, but it really helps get rid of the urge. I ran for school president and won! Also, I’m starting up an anti-bullying campaign for my school.
